John Walker - Diamond Jubilee

From all whisky brands out there to celebrate the Queen's accession, the name John Walker & Sons, the Scotch Whisky distillers by Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen, holds a special meaning. John Walker & Sons was first awarded a Royal Warrant in 1934 by King George V. Nonetheless, the name isn’t restricted to certain circles of connoisseurs alone, but has built a reputation amongst all whisky lovers around the world. No wonder it’s one of the largest selling brand, and its limited edition bottles are always in high demand with the scotch whisky lovers This year however, the people of United Kingdom have something special to be proud of, which is the diamond jubilee of her majesty Queen Elizabeth’s rise to the throne. Upon completing 60 years at the throne, John Walker has finally released "Diamond Jubilee", a specially crafted £100,000-per-bottle blend of rare malt and grain Scotch whiskies distilled in 1952, coinciding with her majesty’s coronation. The diamond shaped Baccarat crystal decanter packaging holds the precious content enduring legacy for the supreme craftsmanship.

Now that bottling of the limited edition whisky has begun, Mr. David Gates, the grantee of John Walker & Sons will also oversee the filling of the Queen’s decanter, which will be in the personal disposal of her majesty. Other than the decanter, there will be 60 editions of the bottle to be sold worldwide for $158,235 each, strictly by invitation so that only the most premium of connoisseurs and collectors get their hands on it.

When one looks back at the efforts that have gone into it, especially from Mr. Beveridge, the master distiller of the brand, and Mr. Matthew Crow, an apprentice with the company, such a rule is virtually befitting for a beverage of such novelty. Hopefully these gentlemen have been lucky enough to create the unique blend during their lifetimes, a true honor many would crave for in their lives. Mr. Beveridge even mentions,





The packaging as one may notice is equally cherishable as the golden liquid beverage inside. Involving the work of 60 artisans including Royal Warrant Holders, and Britain’s premier silversmiths, Hamilton & Inches, the 6 legged Baccarat crystal decanters are being worked on, which represent each decade of her majesty’s rule of the kingdom. The casing for these bottles will decorated with sterling silver set along with half a carat diamond, the royal coat of arms, and even John Walker & Sons monogram, and also individual numbered seals.

 Along with this, there would be Crumbia crystal glasses which have been engraved by Philip Lawson, along with a commemorative book by Laura West and personalization by Sally Magnum, who all come by special appointments from her majesty, Queen Elizabeth. This is what true collector’s items are made of.
